Calgary Opera - La Traviata

CONDUCTED BY Gordon Gerrard
Directed by Alain Gauthier

The Story:
Parisian courtesan Violetta is forced to sacrifice her last chance at true love when she falls for a man whose family disapproves of their relationship, only to discover that her selfless gesture may be her last.

The Production:
Director Alan Gauthier infuses Christina Poddubiuk’s glamourous, Gatsbyesque new design of La Traviata with style and sparkle, setting the heartbreakingly beautiful story of forbidden love in Paris’ roaring 20s.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT:
Verdi’s most performed opera, brimming with transcendent music that includes gems like the famous ‘Brindisi’ (drinking song) and ‘Sempre libera’, along with a passionate story about class politics and personal sacrifice, will have you humming all the way home.

PERFECT IF YOU ENJOY:
