Calgary Opera - The Merry Widow

Brimming with fun, fashion and frivolity, as well as delightful dance numbers including the Can-Can, this delightful confection is the perfect antidote to the winter blues.

Sung in English with English dialogue and projected English titles

CONDUCTED BY Tania Miller
Directed by Omer Ben Seadia

The Story:
The aristocrat Count Danilo is tasked with seducing and marrying a rich widow, Hanna Glawari, to prevent their small country’s economic collapse. Only one problem – he jilted her once before when they were childhood sweethearts.

The Production:
A blend of whimsical comedy, romance and the delights of Belle Époque Paris in all its effervescent splendor, The Merry Widow sets out to entertain and amuse at every pixie-booted step in a wonderfully lavish new staging by award-winning Israeli director Omer Ben Seadia.
